I think that one of the most frequently asked questions by humans, besides the ever present “Why?” is, “What is my purpose?” We try to understand the “Who, What, Why and Where” and make sense of any given situation. As we attempt to answer the question of our purpose, we are challenged to take some things on faith, trusting in a Creator who has designed us for a purpose. We trust even as we face the brokenness and sin of this world.
At UMCSO, we believe that our Creator is invested in His creation. After creating all things, God called them good, with humanity given the gift of being created in God’s likeness. We believe that our sin, (which is when we do anything that is against God’s will) separates us from God. The good news is that in Christ, we have the divine taking on human flesh not only to remind us that He is with us, but to free us from our sins. Christ reconnects us with God, giving us a purpose and direction in life. This is the good news of the Gospel of Christ.
If you have a question about your purpose, we invite you to join us on the journey. We hold on to the promise that God has given to those who seek him, “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11). We invite you to partner with us to grow in a relationship with God, through Christ who loved us enough to save us from sin by taking on himself the consequence of our sin.
With this understanding, we see many ways in which God’s Holy Spirit frees us and invites us to use our gifts and resources for positive change. Join us in making a difference and find your purpose!

Romans 8: 26-28 (The Message)
Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail of our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
