There are many opportunities to get involved. The following is a partial list. If any of them interest you, speak to the people listed or contact us for more information.
- Sunday School Teachers
UMCSO has a wonderful Sunday School program with dedicated teachers who have been teaching for many years. We are always looking for new teachers or substitutes who can pitch in as needed. Our Sunday school is led by a team. If you can serve in this vital area, please contact Kathy Casey or Doug Gaylor.
- Worship Service Liturgist
Liturgists participate in the Worship service by reading the Scripture and Gospel selections and dedicate the offering as it is to be received. Scripture readings and the offering dedication are provided by our Church office to the Liturgist ahead of time. If you would like to serve in this way, please contact Pastor Mantz.
- Ushers
Our ushers are primarily responsible for taking the offering from the congregants and bringing it forward to the altar. Training on how to do this is provided by our Worship committee. If you are interested in being an usher at UMCSO, please contact Debbie Vesuvio.
- Acolytes
As Acolytes, children bring the light of Christ into the service and light the altar candles at the beginning of the service. At the end of the service, the acolytes go forward again and light their taper from the altar candles, extinguish the candles and then take the light out into the world. Training on this important role is provided. Debbie Vesuvio is the person to see if you have a child who would like to participate in this program.
- Music Ministry
Choir & Halos– Robert Gutowski serves as our interim Music Director. Choir practices prior to worship every Sunday. Halos lead spirit-filled contemporary praise and worship at various times in the church. Please contact us if you are interested in the choir or sharing your musical talents.
- A/V Equipment
UMCSO was blessed with the installation of a new audio visual system. There are a few people who manage the process of showing the slides and controlling sound during the service Sunday mornings, but they welcome others who would like to learn this easy process to help out from time to time. If you would like to help out in this capacity, contact Cliff Cullum.
